Welcome to Bansko

Once you visit this fantastic resort, you ’ll be willing to come back , again and again , as Bansko offers only the best and your pleasure here is guaranteed .
Bansko can be astoundingly diverse and cater for all tastes – from modern age buffs to admirers of the authentic. The town has preserved its ancient cobbled streets and houses, some of which date back to a hundred years. This is where Bansko’s unique charm stems from. The houses look like monasteries with their high stonewalls and small shuttered windows. The real Bulgarian spirit is hidden behind fortified walls and heavy gates in spacious rooms with woodcarved ceilings and doors, hand-woven carpets and embroidered cushions, in the murals, icons and the fine iconostasis of the Saint Trinity church.

The unique atmosphere of the town at the foot of the Pirin mountain is enriched by the characteristic sonority of Bansko male singing, the local sense of humour, the mature red wine and the delicious dishes of traditional Bansko cuisine. The strange feel of the air is one of the most impressive experiences in Bansko – something like smoke or smouldering pine. The magic feeling of something cozy and snug. In the numerous local taverns with the exotic name “mehana” you can sit comfortably, smile, feel the warmth of the open fire and enjoy the soft flavour and the delicious taste of the local sausage called “Old man”.

No doubt that the “Tomba” run is the most attractive, but also the most difficult in the area. Its qualities were assesses by the godfather Alberto Tomba and the other stars – Franz Klammer, Rosi Mittermaier, Marc Girardelli, Hristo Stoychkov and the best Bulgarian skier Petar Popangelov. The excellent characteristics of “Tomba” run made it host a round of Europa Cup from FIS Calendar, all national ski and snowboard championships and also of the starts for the Balkan Cup. In 2007 Bansko hosted a lady’s GS race in alpine skiing from the calendar of Europa Cup Alpine Ski, which passed in perfect organisation. In 2008 Bansko will host the races in the most attractive discipline from the alpine skiing – two men downhill races from the calendar of FIS Europa Cup.

All other runs are open to the pleasures of all skiers – from absolute beginners to professionals. All the runs are secured with safety nets by the safety expert Kurt Koch with his experience of over 500 competitions for the World Cup in alpine skiing. So be sure – even uncertain in your skills, you won’t get hurt. A host of ski-policemen are taking care of the safety of the skiers in the area, too. They do not allow dangerous skiing on the runs and watch over your equipment while you are having a snack in some of the first class mountain restaurants.

One of the most picturesque and beautiful runs in the resort is “The Plateau”.
Right by its side is the Fun Park for the snowboard fans. More by international standards it offers all the extras. This is the reason some starts of the European Snowboarding Cup have already taken place there.

For the para-skiers Bansko offers one hundred percent adrenaline experience. The start is just below Todorka Peak and the final can be right beside the first houses of the resort village.

All runs of the ski resort are in perfect condition because they are groomed by Kassbohrer maintenance vehicles round the clock. The real rolling of the runs begins a couple of hours after the midnight so that the skiers can enjoy the runs as early in the morning as possible.
